Father |
John Williams was born
7 Feb 1811 in Cumberland County, Kentucky or just across the border in Overton
County, Tennessee. Thanks to extensive DNA research (Y-DNA, autosomal)
using about eight descendants his
parents are now identified as
Joseph Williams and Mary Hendrickson. The DNA research gave us his
paternal and maternal relatives and predicted a marriage between Joseph
Williams and Mary Hendrickson which was later verified via a War of 1812
Pension file. The DNA research also identified John's likely siblings.
John Williams' father Joseph Williams had a brother
Richard Williams. Research is
ongoing... John was a farmer which was the most common occupation at the time. Between 1840 and 1842 John and first wife Rebecca ______ migrated to Missouri settling in Jasper County where evidently Rebecca died before 1847. John and Rebecca had seven children together (see bottom of page for that family). John remarried to Mary Burris on 28 Jan 1847 in Jasper County, Missouri. Mary had seven children by her previous husband Isaac Crabtree and together John and Mary had seven more children making for a large extended family. John and Mary migrated from Jasper County, Missouri to Collin County, Texas in 1851 and settled about 8 miles northeast of McKinney. They bought land in 1852 and kept the land until their deaths. John died 13 Dec 1888 and was buried in Stiff Chapel cemetery. There was no will made and no obituary exists in existing archived newspapers. 25 July 2021 update: John's Y-DNA Haplogroup is G-M201 according to two male-line descendants who have also been closely Y-DNA matched to a male-line descendant of Miles Williams (1806-1861) of Cumberland County, Kentucky. There are also extensive autosomal DNA matches between John and Miles' descendants as well as matches to descendants of siblings of Miles. |
