Father

 John Calvin Halsell was born about 1843 in Coahoma County, Mississippi. He was the son of Andrew Jackson Halsell and Elizabeth "Stanley". 

John married Mary "Polly" Ann Deaton on 4 June 1863 in Williamson County, Illinois. John died about 1885 possibly in Searcy County, Arkansas. Sarah died about 1894 possibly near Stonewall, Oklahoma.

There is a family story by granddaughter Pauline Hall that John Calvin Halsell was "one of 13 children" and was disinherited by his father. It's possible the story actually pertains to John's grandfather Reason Halsell who was one of 18 children and moved away.  Reason's father had a large estate. 

The Halsell Y-DNA haplogroup is R-M269 per descendants of George Halsell (1750s - 1807 SC).		 Census Records:

Mother

 Mary Ann "Polly" Deaton was born about 1844 in DeKalb County, Arkansas.  Her parents were Joseph Deaton and Sarah McNew.

Mary supposedly died about 1894 in or near Stonewell, Indian Territory now Pontotoc County, Oklahoma.

Dau. ● Sarah Jane Halsell was born 25 June 1864 in Williamson County, Illinois. She married Francis Marion Adams on 24 Jan 1886 in Searcy County, Arkansas. Francis died in 1917 in Le Flore County, Oklahoma and was buried in Poteau cemetery.  Sarah died 15 Aug 1943 in or near Castle, Okfuskee County, Oklahoma. 
  • James Thomas Adams was born 26 Nov 1887 in Searcy County, Arkansas.  He married Sarah Jane "Sadie" McDaniel on 30 Jan 1910 in Logan County, Arkansas.  James died 1 Oct 1960 in Oklahoma and was buried in Highland cemetery, Okemah, Oklahoma.
  • John Silas Adams was born 18 Apr 1889 in Searcy County, Arkansas.  He married Verta Evans on 23 Dec 1909 in Logan County, Arkansas.  John died on 20 March 1974 in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona.
  • Riley Philip Adams was born 20 Apr 1895 in McAlester, Pittsburg co., Oklahoma.  He married Esther Alread (later div.) on 2 Aug 1919 in Le Flore County, Oklahoma. Riley died 29 April 1975 in Kentucky.
  •  Walter Clint Adams was born 30 Jul 1898 in McAlester, Pittsburg co., Oklahoma.  Walter died in 1976 in Chandler, Arizona.

  • James Garfield Halsell was born May 1883 in Arkansas.  He evidently never married.  James died 1 Nov 1863 probably in Conway County, Arkansas and was buried in Middleton cemetery, Conway County, Arkansas.
  • Rosa Belle Wilbanks was born 6 an 1889 in Arkansas.  She married Thomas Wesley Bryant on 5 Aug 1906 in Conway County, Arkansas. She remarried to Andrew Jackson Polk on 8 Feb 1935 in Conway County, Arkansas. Rosa died 29 July 1964 in Conway County, Arkansas.
  • Ella Mae Hattie Lewis was born July 1894 in Arkansas.  She married William Thomas "Tommy" Dutton on 28 Jan 1910 in Conway County, Arkansas.  Ella died in 1971 and was buried in Mulberry cemetery in England, Lonoke County, Arkansas.
  • Leroy Halsell Lewis was born Oct 1898 in Arkansas.  He married Daisy E Bryant on 6 Jan 1917 in Conway County, Arkansas. Leroy died 23 May 1966 in Arkansas and was buried in Middleton cemetery, Conway County, Arkansas.  His children went by Halsell.
  • Lillie J Halsell was born 7 Oct 1901 in Conway County, Arkansas.  She married Elisha Bryant in 1916 and George Hughie Prince in 1920.  Lillie died 24 Feb 1993 in Conway County, Arkansas and was buried in Middleton cemetery, Conway County, Arkansas.
