c.1752 About 1752 Sparling Bowman is born in Maryland.
1755 22 Feb 1755 - John Bowman, Sparling's father, had 50 acres of land surveyed on east side of Conocheague Creek in Frederick [now Washington] County, Maryland west of Hagerstown.  The tract (certificate 3117) is formally titled "Poor Land" .  In 1806 Daniel Bowman, administrator of estate of John Bowman, mentions the tract "Poor Land" in his inventory of the estate of John Bowman which appears to have been fully settled only after the death of John's wife Catherine.  Daniel Bowman stayed in Maryland for many years after his brothers migrated to Greene County, Tennessee.  BC1/303 (Certificates) and BC3/36 (Patents)
1775 In 1832 Elizabeth Laney ("aunt" of Eleanor Hixson Bowman) testified she knew Sparling Bowman at Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland.
