affirmed he was a son of Sparling Bowman. Benjamin died about 1855 in
Missouri.

in 1820. On 8 March 1825 Peter Harmon (age 38) was deposed in the
Hixson-Bowman case. In 1832 Peter Harmon testified for Sparling Bowman in his pension

The tract (certificate 3117) is formally titled "Poor Land" . In 1806 Daniel Bowman, administrator of estate of John Bowman, mentions the tract "Poor Land" in his inventory of the estate of John Bowman which appears to have been fully settled only after the death of John's wife Catherine. Hixson vs. Sparling Bowman. [page 26] Elizabeth Laney aged about 72 years Deposith and Says she heard Susanah Hixson in her lifetime say that she gave all the property *** her **** and left her to Ellender Bowman for what she had done and for to take care of her and to maintain her - her lifetime & that the boys should let her & **** for she had not a **** and she said that if it had not been for Sparling and Ellen she did not know haugh or what she should have done Question by Defendants: What would you **** the nursing and taking care of the old Miss Hixon would be worth or what would you think you could have taken care of the old Lade for. Answer: I think I could not under eight or nine hundred dollars neither gave more than *** Question plaintiff: Did you ever hear Miss Hixson say that she wished to give Ellen Bowman all her property the Answer: No I did not. Question - Do: Was the two before names Negroes dead before the death of Miss Hixson. Answer: Yes some time before her death and this Deposeth further states that she Miss Hixson told her that she had give to Ellen Bowman all the property that was... [page 27] ... left her after the divide of her and her sons - and for nursing and taking care of her - her lifetime and she further states she was an old woman and she thinks and believes that she was about seventy nine years of age at that time and helpless. Question by the plaintiff: What relation are you to the Defendant. Answer: The Aunt of Miss Bowman. Revolutionary War Pension application [Sep 1832] We George House & Peter Harmon --- residing in the County of Greene hereby state that we are well acquainted with Sparling Bowman who was subscribed & sworn to the foregoing declaration that we believe him to be about eighty years of age, that he is reputed and believed, in the neighborhood where he resides, to have been a soldier of the Revolution & that we concur in that opinion. Sworn and subscribed this day. Clerk G. House Peter Harmon And the said Court do hereby declare their opinion after the investigation of the matter and after putting this in interrogatories prescribed by the War Department that the above named applicant was a Revolutionary soldier & served as he state and the Court further certifies that it appears to them that Peter Harmon & George House who have signed the foregoing certificate are respected (?) citizens of s'd County are nd**able persons & their certificate entitled to credit. J Perry Judge of the Court. James Jack Elizabeth Laney Citizens of Greene County personally appeared in open court & made oath that they are personally acquainted with the foregoing declarant Sparling Bowman, resided in Hagerstown, Maryland in the year 1775 when said Bowman enlisted into the army under Cap'n Crissip [Cresap]. Elizabeth saw him march with the troops from Hagerstown, knew of his being absent for about a year and at the expiration of the time saw him return home with the ***staments of a soldier & the universal understanding there was, that said Bowman had been during the year in the army.
