Richard Williams was born about 1780 in Virginia (or North Carolina). In the 1880 Federal Census two of Richard's daughters gave their father's birthplace as North Carolina. Richard's possible brothers may have been John Williams Sr and Joseph Williams and Pleasant Williams. Richard's occupation was most likely farming.

Richard died about 1865 in Cumberland County, Kentucky.

Mother:
Richard's first wife is listed in some Ancestry trees as "Mary Ann Speer". Her first and middle name are verified in a deed record. The last name has not been verified by this writer.

Mary Ann evidently died before 1838 and Richard remarried to Elizabeth "Betsey" Speer her supposed sister. [Speer family] [Benjamin Speer] Joseph Rutledge 1749 md. Elizabeth Speer which may explain Rutledge connections.
