 Isaiah Burris was born about 1776 probably in Laurens county, South Carolina. His father was probably William Burris (Burrows) who received land in Laurens county, South Carolina in 1769.  This Burris family moved to Kentucky about 1795-1796. 

Isaiah Burris can be directly connected to Walter Burris (b.1760s), William Burris, Thomas Burris (b.1770s) and David B Burris (b. 1770s SC) through various records.  It's unclear if the William Burris living in Laurens county, South Carolina in 1769 is the exact same William Burris living in Clark county, Kentucky in the late 1790s and early 1800s. The earlier one maybe the senior William Burris and the other maybe the junior William Burris. 

The overlapping of 10 years of tax roll data in Kentucky and other records supports a related group of consisting Walter, William, David, Thomas, and Isaiah Burris.  Descendants of Walter, David, and Thomas can be documented living near each other in various counties in north Texas.  Click here for more information. 

Isaiah Burris married Rachel Barker on Oct. 22, 1801 in Clark county, Kentucky. The marriage bond was filed in neighboring Madison county. [bond] [register]

The Isaiah Burris family is very difficult to research because he left no will. The children listed below is based on circumstantial evidence.  Only his daughter Mahulda can be proven to be a child.  It's possible there are more unknown children.

Rachel Barker was born about 1783 ± 2 years.  Rachel was the daughter of Elias Barker.  Rachel is assumed to have died in the 1840s in Ripley county, Missouri. 
Dau. ● Mahulda Burris was born about 1801 in Kentucky.  The 1850 census gives a birthdate of 1798 but this is assumed to be incorrect.    
Son ● John Burrows was born 1803-1810 in Kentucky.  
Son ● William Burrows was born about 1811 in Kentucky.  He married Kisiah Stone on Sept. 23, 1836 (court record lost).  
Dau. ● Malinda Burris was born about 1815 in Estill county, Kentucky.  She married John Little.  
Dau. ● Rachel Burris was born about 1816-1820 [estimated] in Kentucky.  Rachel Burris married Chilton [Shelton] A Stone on 5 April 1838 in Ripley County, Missouri. The marriage was performed by Albin Gordon, JP.  
Dau. ● Lucinda Burris was born about 1816-1820 [estimated] in Kentucky.  Lucinda Burris married James Joliff 18 April 1838 in Ripley County, Missouri. The marriage was also performed by Albin Gordon, JP.

1776 Isaiah Burris was born about 1776 in Laurens county, South Carolina.  
1790 In the 1790 Federal Census, South Carolina, Laurens county, there was a Walter Burress next to a William Burress [mis-transcribed on Ancestry as William Burick].  In the William Burress household the grouping of males above and older 16 years plus 7 females is consistent with a household where the oldest male is at least age 20 (2 year birth spacing).  This would mean the head of the household William Burress (likely the father) would probably be in his middle 40s to 50s in age.  Next door Walter Burris was likely in his mid 20s with two young sons.

May 17, 1796 - William Burrows listed next to James Box.  The same collection date indicates proximity.  William Burrows and James Box had both came from Laurens county, South Carolina.  According to the tax roll the William Burrows household contained two males aged over 21 years and two males aged over 16 years.  This would be William (b. 1730s), Walter (b. 1760-65), Isaiah (b. 1776) and Thomas (b. 1775-78).  David Burris (b. 1771-74) was living elsewhere.  James Box was the father of Muke Box and both are closely associated with Walter Burris and Isaiah Burris. 		  [image]
1800 May 15, 1800 - The Clark County, KY tax roll records William Burris and Isaiah Burris with same collection date of May 15 which indicates proximity.  [link]
1800 July 7, 1800 - Isaiah Burris witnessed Prudence Owens ("Oings") consent for her daughter Nancy Owens to marry Thomas Burgin.  The bondsmen were Walter Burris and William Lackey. The bond was filed in Madison county.  There was no actual marriage recorded though.  This is the earliest record of Walter Burris in Kentucky and also directly connects Walter Burris to Isaiah Burris.     Research indicates this Burris family lived in southern Clark County, Kentucky close to the border with Madison county from at least 1799 to 1809.

Thomas Burgin (and mother-in-law Prudence) show up later in Cass county, Missouri where he died in 1837. Thomas Burgin's son John Burgin is found living next to David Burris Sr in 1830 (MO, Jackson county) and next to David Burris (s/o Henry) in 1860 (CA, Tulare county). Was Prudence Owens connected to the Burris family making the Burris children and the Burgin children cousins?		 [link]
1801 April 16, 1801 - Clark county, Kentucky - Isaiah Burris on the tax roll with the same collection date as William Burris and Thomas Burris.  [link]
1801 Oct. 22, 1801 - Isaiah Burris marries Rachel Barker (d/o Elias Barker) in Clark county, Kentucky.  Three weeks later Thomas Burris married Peggy Tincher on Nov. 12, 1801. Both marriages had the marriage bonds filed in Madison county, Kentucky but the marriage record recorded in Clark county, Kentucky and performed by James Quisenberry.  This may indicate they were close to the border between those counties.  John Snethen married Prudence Bowles (1/2 sister of Muke Box mention below) on Oct. 6, 1801 in Clark county, Kentucky and that was also performed by James Quisenberry.

June 8, 1805 - Clark county, Kentucky - Isaiah Burrus taxed on personal property (horse).
June 22, 1806 - Clark county, Kentucky - Isaiah Burrus taxed on personal property (horse).		  
1808 March 28, 1808 - Estill County, Kentucky - Will Book - page343 - Isaiah Burris and David McGee were the witnesses for the recording of James Box's will in the Estill county courthouse.   James Box died in early 1808 (or late 1807) leaving a widow Mary Box, son Muke Box, step-daughter Prudence Snethen and step-son William Boyles (Bowles).
 
1808 May 17, 1808 - Estill County, Kentucky - Court Order Book, page 33-34 says:

" Ordered that David McGee, Augustus Davis, Gilliard Roop [Gilead Rupe] and Isaiah Burross [Burris] or any three of them being first sworn do view the nearest and best way for a road leading from the mouth of Woodard's Creek to intersect the road leading from the Rock Lick to the courthouse at or near James Box's and report the conveniences and unconveniences attending the same to the next court. "

David McGee and Gilead Rupe are later directly connected to Walter Burris in Boonville, Missouri.  All these people knew each other in Kentucky and later in Missouri.		 [page 33]

1808 June 19, 1808 - Estill County, Kentucky - Court Order Book - page 51-52 says:

" A report of the road from the mouth of Woodward's Creek on Red River to intersect the road leading from the rock lick to the court house and ordered to be recorded as follows to wit in obedience to an order of the Estill County Court to use directed being first sworn we have proceeded to view a new way for a road.  Beginning at the mouth of Woodward's Creek on Red River thence up said creek through the land of Graham.  Thence through the land of widow Box to intersect with the road leading from the Rock Lick on Kentucky River to Estill Court house. Given under my hand this 19th day of June 1808 - signed David McGee, Isaiah Burross, Augustus Davis --  Wherefore it is ordered that spec(?) issue vs Graham & the widow Box to cause them to appear here at our next County Court to show cause why the s'd road should not pass through their land as aforesaid. 1808 Oct. 17, 1808 - Estill County, Kentucky - Court Order Book - page 91 says:

" Isaiah Burross came personally into court and gave the said court to understand and be informed that there is a convenient way for a road around his plantation.  Beginning at the upper corner of said plantation and moving the fence for about twenty yards in length thence along a direct line crossing the creek twice into the old road - Whereupon the court agreed said road might be established, provided said road be opened before the establishment and the old road to be continued till the new road be opened, and the said Burross is to open said road at his own expense. 1808 Oct. 19, 1808 - Estill County, Kentucky - Court Order Book - page 98-99 says:

" The following allotment of hands was this day returned to court and ordered to be recorded viz - " In compliance to an order of the Estill County Court us directed we have allotted the hands to work under Augustus Davis overseer of the road from mouth of Woodward Creek to the dividing ridge between Calloway's Creek & Polecat, a list of which is hereunto subjoined by us - October 19th 1808 - David McGee, James McMahan. "

1809 April 9, 1809 - Estill county, Kentucky - Isaiah Burrus taxed on 117 acres on Woodward's Creek.  
1809 July 17, 1809 - Estill county, Kentucky - Court Order Book, page 180 says:

" Ordered that Isaiah Burress be appointed surveyor of the road leading from the Flatwood's Meeting House to the Red River Iron works to the cross road of the Woodward's Creek road with the said road near the Widow Boxes in place of Thomas Tribble who is exempt therefrom "

" Ordered that Zachariah Barnes be appointed surveyor of the road leading from the mouth of Woodward's Creek to the Widow Boxes in place of Augustus Davis who is exempt therefrom and James McGee from thence the dividing Ridge in place of said Davis who is exempt therefrom. "  

This court order also puts Isaiah Burris within proximity to "Widow Box" [Mary "Nancy"], widow of James.  Google maps shows a Woodward Creek and Ironworks Road north of Ravenna, Estill county, Kentucky. [transcription]		 [page 180]
1810 July 1810 - Estill county, Kentucky - Court Order Book, page 276-277 says:

" Ordered that William Dunaway be appointed Surveyor of the road leading from the Flatwood's Meeting house to the crossing of the said road with the drowning Creek at or near Boxes old place in the room of Isaiah Burross who is exempt therefrom. "		 [page 277]
1817 Isaiah Burris is taxed for the last time in Estill county.  
1820 Probably living in Missouri.  There are no census records existing for Missouri in 1820.

Many neighbors are the same as 1830 Wayne county so he was probably in the section of Wayne county made into Ripley county in 1833.		  
1846 Isaiah Burris sells land to daughter Mahulda Burris.  
1848 1848 - Isaiah Burris taxed in Cass county, Missouri.  Also listed are David Burris and Mastin Burris.

June 8, 1848 - Cass county, Missouri - Isaiah Burris marries Nancy Robards. 		 
1850 1850 Missouri Census, Johnson county, page 81, family 1025:
