Father | James Monroe Applegate was born "31 Oct 1804"
possibly in Lee county, Virginia.
James appears to have been the son of Hezekiah Applegate and Susan Brittain.
This family moved to Pike county, Illinois in the 1850s along with many other Applegates and Starks. James worked as a farmer and a Justice of the Peace. In 1850 he was the census taker for his section of the county. James died on "5 Mar 1874" Pike county, Illinois. |
Census records: 1830 IN, Scott county, p. 286 1840 IN, Scott county, p. 241 1850 IN, Scott county, p. 142 1860 IL, Pike county, p. 1 1870 IL, Pike county, p. 4 |
Mother | Sarah Stark. James
Applegate was first married to Sarah Stark on 3 Aug 1824 in Scott county,
Indiana. Sarah apparently had died by 1830 because the 1830 census shows James with only a female age 1-5 years, presumably their
daughter. |
[notes] [Applegate Y-DNA] |
Dau. | Unknown Applegate was
born 1826 to 1830 in Indiana. She maybe Rebecca P Applegate (1827-1860) that married Lewis Spears in 1847 and moved to Pike county, Illinois by 1850. |
|
Mother | Jerusha
Stark was born "Feb. 16, 1816" in Indiana.
Her parents are unknown/unproven. James
Applegate remarried to Jerusha Stark on 6 June 1833 in Scott county, Indiana. In the 1870s Jerusha
Stark and her daughters Susanna Richey and Amanda Richey migrated to Collin county, Texas. Some of the Holfords moved to Texas as well. Jerusha
Stark died 7 Feb 1898 and was buried Altoga cemetery, Collin county,
Texas. Jerusha's possible parents might be worked out through autosomal DNA matching of direct descendants to other Stark descendants. Currently this writer finds many matches to people from Charles Stark (1782) and Eli Stark (1795). Jerusha's Mitochondrial DNA haplogroup is U5a1a1.* |

17 July 1843 in Scott county, Indiana. He married Ellen Stone on 25 May 1870
