Father

 Zachariah Barnes was born about 1765-1770 place unknown.  His parents are unproven despite what is repeated on Ancestry which maybe just an assumption.  Zachariah can not be *directly" associated through records with any other Barnes lines other than using proximity and DNA.

Zachariah first appears in Clark county, Kentucky on the 1799 tax roll.

Zachariah was possibly married twice.  The first marriage was to an unknown woman and the second marriage was to Hannah Hatton in 1798 in Clark county, Kentucky.

Zachariah died in 1849 in Estill county, Kentucky.

20 May 2023 update: Recent DNA research has revealed a close connection to descendants of Thomas Barnes (c. 1763 NC - 1851 White County, TN).  This line was in Wilkes County, NC before migrating to Tennessee.  There did exist a younger Zachariah Barnes in Wilkes County, NC.  		Census Records

Daughter		 ● Lydia Barnes was born 1789/1790 in South Carolina.  She married Walter Burris on 28 May 1807 in Clark county, Kentucky.  Lydia died after 1860.

Other researchers have a Lydia in this family but with a birth year of 1782.  At this point it is only speculation that Lydia Burris was Zachariah's daughter.

Possible son? ● son Barnes was born in the 1790s. He married a Dempsey ______ (b. 1797 SC) and died before 1830.  Three consecutive census records verify Dempsey was actually a female. Dempsey is both a male and female name.

Note: In 1830 Dempsey was was living next to John Hawkins, Emmanuel Sons, George Clemmons, James Green.

Son		 ● John Barnes was born about 1801 in Kentucky (or North Carolina).  He married Nancy Crouch on 23 Dec 1824 in Estill county, Kentucky.  Evidently Nancy died by 1840 and John remarried to Lucinda Witt in 1849.  John died after 1880 in Estill county, Kentucky.
  • Jemima Barnes was born about 1826 in Estill county, Kentucky.
  • Lydia Barnes was born about 1828 in Estill county, Kentucky.
  • Catherine Barnes was born 12 Feb 1831 in Estill county, Kentucky.  She married James Henry Sherrow on 28 May 1856 in Estill county, Kentucky.  Catherine died 1 Aug 1903 in Henry county, Missouri.
  • Rebecca Barnes was born about 1833 in Estill county, Kentucky.
