Walter Burrus was born about 1768-1770 in Albemarle county, Virginia.   

Walter was evidently married twice.  Walter's first wife was Mary Lively who he married on 1 May 1787 in Albemarle county, Virginia. 

Walter's second wife was Lucy P. Shekell (dau of Cephas Shekell) who he married on 1 April 1819 in Albemarle county, Virginia.

Walter died in 1836 in Albemarle county, Virginia.  His estate was administered in 1837 and into 1842.

Mary Lively was probably born about 1770 in Virginia.  Walter Burrus and Mary Lively were married 1 May 1787 in Albemarle county, Virginia.

Mary evidently died between 1810 and 1819.

Possible son? Walter Burrus Jr ?  The 1815 tax roll lists a second male over 16 years (1814 just had one male, Walter) indicating a male became 16 years old in 1815.

Daughter Mary Jane "Polly" Burrus was born about 1788 in Albemarle county, Virginia. She married David Durham on 19 March 1817 in Albemarle county, Virginia.  Mary died after 1870 probably in Albemarle county, Virginia.

Daughter Mourning Burrus was born 10 Jan 1789 in Albemarle county, Virginia. She married John Durham on 28 Jan 1811 in Albemarle county, Virginia.  They moved to Hart county, Kentucky by 1820.  About 1828 they moved to Sangamon county, Illinois and shortly after to Bureau county, Illinois.  Mourning died 10 April 1878 in Illinois.  Their son William E Durham has a biography in a history of  Pottawattamie County, Iowa that mentions his parents being of Albemarle county, Virginia.

Agnes Ann R. Burrus was born about 1790 in Albemarle county, Virginia. She married Thomas M Gillock on 29 Sep 1808 in Albemarle county, Virginia. They moved to Martin county, Indiana.

Daughter Nancy Burrus was born about 1790 in Albemarle county, Virginia.  She married Robert Gillock on 2 June 1806 in Albemarle county, Virginia.  They lived in Barren county, Kentucky; Sangamon county, Illinois; and Lawrence county, Missouri.  Nancy died after 1870 probably in Missouri.

Daughter Matilda Lewis Burrus was born about 1803 in Albemarle county, Virginia.  She married William Knight on 23 Dec 1819 in Albemarle co., Virginia  They moved to Kentucky by 1827 and to Hart county, Kentucky by 1830.  Matilda died after 1880 probably in Hart county, Kentucky.

Daughter Amanda Burrus was born 1801 to 1804 in Albemarle county, Virginia.  She married Robert Burgess on 24 May 1828 in Albemarle county, Virginia.

Lucy P. Shikell (or Shickles) was born about 1790 in Virginia.  Walter Burrus married Lucy on 1 April 1819 in Albemarle county, Virginia.  She was daughter of Cephas Shickles who lived next to Walter Burrus during the 1820 census.

Lucy died after 1850.

Daughter Mariah L. Burrus was born about 1820-182 in Albemarle county, Virginia.  She married Gaswell Marr (or Mars) on 15 March 1842 in Albemarle county, Virginia.  They moved to Fluvanna county, Virginia after 1850.  Mariah died after 1880 probably in Fluvanna county, Virginia.

Ancestry transcribed the record as "Walter Burrie Jr" when it actually says "Walter Burriss".  Walter was living next to Cephas Shickles which helps verify he married Lucy Shickles possibly a daughter of Cephas.
