Father

Joseph Deaton was born about 1815 in Montgomery County, North Carolina.  Circumstantial evidence points to his father being Dison Deaton.

He married Sarah McNew in the 1830s in Alabama or Tennessee.  Joseph was living in DeKalb County, Alabama from at least 1836 to 1850. Joseph and Sarah moved to Williamson County, Illinois by 1860.

Joseph Deaton died "Sep. 25, 1866" presumably in Williamson County, Illinois. 		Census Records:

Mother

Sarah McNew was born about 1820 in Tennessee.  Her parents appear to have been Elijah McNew and Joanna Bowman.  After Joseph's death in Illinois Sarah and several children moved to Arkansas settling in Conway County by 1870 but some children stayed in Illinois.

Sarah Deaton died after 1870 presumably in Conway County, Arkansas.

The circumstantial evidence supports that Sarah McNew and Churchwell McNew (1797-1858) of Marion County, Tennessee and Pope County, Illinois were related.   On 10 March 1865 in Saline County, Illinois Sarah McNew Deaton (wife of Joseph) of Williamson County, Illinois testified in the Civil War "Mother's Pension" case for Mary McNew (widow of Churchwell) the mother of Thomas B McNew .  Thomas B McNew's brother-in-law John G Feezor (married Mary Rebecca McNew) also testified at the same time.

Dau. ● Martha J. Deaton was born about 1836 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She married Jesse Lollis on July 20, 1852 in Williamson County, Illinois. Martha died 28 May 1916 in Jackson County, Illinois.
  • Armina Lollis was born about 1854 in Illinois.  She married Jefferson McDaniel on 24 Aug 1870 in Johnson County, Illinois.
  • David Lollis was born about 1856 Williamson County, Illinois. He married Melissa Bundon on 25 Aug 1878 in Williamson County, Illinois.
  • Thomas Lollis was born about 1858 in Illinois.  He married Martha J Wall on 9 April 1896 in Johnson County, Illinois.
  • Frank Lollis was born about 1865 in Illinois.  He married Minnie M Stanhouse on 16 Dec 1888 in Perry County, Illinois.  Frank died 1 Feb 1920 in Vergennes, Jackson County, Illinois and was buried in Parrish cemetery.
  • Isaac Lollis was born 2 Apri l1969 in Vienna, Illinois.  He married Mary A Hammen on 6 Sep 188 in Perry County, Illinois.  He married Maggie Cymlik on 15 Jan 1900 in Perry County, Illinois.  Isaac died 26 Dec 1939 in Pinkneyville, Perry County, Illinois.
  • Sarah Ellen Lollis was born about 1870 in Illinois.  She married John H Yost on 9 May 1893 in Perry County, Illinois.  Sarah died 28 March 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri and was buried in St. George cemetery, New Baden, Illinois.

Son ● Thomas Deaton was born in Oct. 1838 in DeKalb County, Alabama. He married Sarah A. Lollis on June 6, 1862 in Johnson County, Illinois. Thomas died Dec. 18, 1912 and was buried Henshaw cemetery, Stonefort, Illinois.

Dau. ● Mary Ann "Polly" Deaton was born about 1843 in DeKalb County, Alabama. She married John Calvin Halsell on or about 4 June  1863 in Williamson County, Illinois (license date 4 June 1863). John died about 1885 possibly in Searcy County, Arkansas. Mary died about 1894 at Stonewall, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma.
  • Sarah Jane Halsell was born 25 June 1864 in Williamson County, Illinois. She married Francis M Adams on 24 Jan 1886 in Searcy County, Arkansas. Sarah died 15 Aug 1943 near Castle, Okfuskee County, Oklahoma and was buried in Welty cemetery.
  • Louisa W. "Lou" Halsell was born 16 Dec 1866 in Illinois. Louisa died 6 April 1942 in Arkansas and was buried in Middleton cem., Conway County, Arkansas.

  • Frank Elbert Halsell was born 18 Jan 1875 in Searcy County, Arkansas. He married Irena Rosalee Clairday on 28 July 1909 in Searcy County, Arakansas. Frank was killed 15 July 1921 in a house boat in Desha County, Arkansas.
  • Winey Brunette Halsell was born 11 Feb 1878 in Arkansas. She married Squire William "Bill" Flippo on 12 April 1895 in Boone County, Arkansas and divorced before 1900. She married John Wilburn Murphy on 1 March 1904 near Moody, Craig County, Oklahoma. She married John Henry Birge on 22 Feb 1912 in Johnson County, Arkansas.  She married Martin Sangmon Childers by 1945.  Winey died 15 Oct 1945 in Marysville?, Yuba County, California and was buried in Sierra View cemetery, Olivehurst, California.

  • Margaret Permelia Josephine Halsell was born 5 Aug 1882 in Searcy County, Arkansas. She married Robert Lee Mannon on 5 Jan 1897 in Stonewall, Oklahoma. Margaret died 28 July 1950 in Oktaha, Muskogee County, Oklahoma and was buried in Hillcrest cem., Weleetka, Oklahoma.
