| Deposition of William Beams, Choctaw Nation, William Beams, appeared before me John McKee agent [p.879] in the said nation and declares, that some time in the year One thousand seven hundred and eighty seven or thereabouts, he bought a certain Negroe wench named Rose, of a Charles Lucas and sold said Negroe to Benjamin James & afterwards got said Negroe wench back and sold her again to said Lucas, and during the time he Owned said wench and ever since till here lately he never heard that there was any kind of dispute in said wench, or that Mr. Denley ever held or had any Claim thereto in any manner whatever, and further that said Negroe never was hid or carried off in any secret manner to evade the law but has been in the Eye of the law since that time and always appeared as Good property. And further declares that the said Charles Lucas was a trader to Mobile from this nation and Traded for a number years peaceably - before I bought said wench and afterwards.
