A List of Creek Reserves, 20 April 1841

Sir,

  I transmit, herewith, a list designating the names of certain Creek Indians whose reservations having been sold and the contracts or deed therefore, having been approved the consideration has been paid to this Office of for the use of the Indians reserve or his proper heirs.  The amount to be paid to each reserve is indicated opposite his or her name and the amount due to all embraced on said list forms an aggregate of $ 11,102.62 which is herewith put into your hands.  The payments to this Office consist generally of Certificates of deposit in Banks of Columbus Georgia which will render it necessary that you visit that place on your return to your agency to procure the money on the certificates.

  You will be particular to ascertain the right Indians entitled to receive the money arising from the sale of the respective reservation and when it shall be made to appears that the reservee has died, the amount in hand applicable to payment for the reserve of the deceased Indian must be distributed amongst & the proper heirs *

  When the payments are making it is deceased advisable to impress the Creeks with the fact that the Government of the United States has pursued the present course out of regard to the individual interest of the Creek and that the price for each tract was proven to be a fair sum for the land.

*  There may be cases when the heir is too young to be entrusted with some [of] their own money, which would be thrown away or lost, or certainly misapplied.  In all such instances, if they occur, you will please consult the Chiefs of the Creek Nation in council, and pay to the person or persons that they shall recommend as worthy of the confidence, and as individuals who will faithfully apply the money to the use of the minors according to their necessities or circumstances, and pay over to said heirs respectively on their arriving at mature age, or contracting marriage, whatever balance may now --- in his or their hands unexpended.

Recieved of T. Hartley Crawford Commissioner of Indian Affairs $ 11,102.62 in the following funds

Viz: 72 certificates of deposit in the Planters & Mechanics Bank of Columbus for $ 100 each, 3 on same bank for $ 200 each & 1 for $250 in the same 6 certificates of the Bank of Columbus.  

Viz: 1 for $ 482.83, one for $ 15, one for $ 402.75, one for $ 400, one for $ 450 & one for $ 452, one note of the Bank of Decatur for $ 100, one ditto on the Bank of Mobile for $ 50, five notes on the Bank of Virginia for $ 100 each and 4 on the same Bank for $ 50 each.
